NEWSLETTER – EDEN RUNNERS TRACK TEAM
The first Cumbria Track league fixture of the season took place at the Sheepmount Stadium Carlisle on the 25th April with our team of over 20 taking 5 first and 5 second places.
It was pleasing to see so many athletes new to track & field taking part with Ellena Hayhurst reaching the final of the 70m and winning comfortably in 11.2s. Oliver Douglas in the boys race won his heat to reach the final where he finished 6th. Megan Bates continued the success in the sprints as she took the U13 80m by a 1/10 of a second!
We were well represented in the long jump competitions with Ellena Hayhurst finishing 4th (U11G) followed by Laura Elliot, Emily Petrie and Holly Hardy. Oliver Douglas placed 5th in the boys event followed by Oliver May, Angus Clifford, Reece Simpson and Stephen Dodgson. The U13 Long Jump saw 5 PB’s by Ellen Elliot 3.52m; Emma-Jane Peacock 3.48m; Clare Petrie 3.15m; Isabella Sharrock 3.15m & Sarah Howey 3.10m. With a third place jump of 3.68m our girls have a medal well within their sights! Arabella Sharrock in her debut jumped 3.52m in the U15G while Alistair Weymouth took gold in the U15B and Helen Peacock a silver in the U17G event.
Middle distance events proved more difficult for the younger members of the team but we still scored a first through Megan Bates and a second via Alistair Weymouth who was narrowly beaten on the line in the 800m.
In the throws Helen Peacock came first in the discus and second in the javelin with Lee Savage second in the Shot Putt and Claire Gibson in the same position in the U20W Discus.
The next event is
again at the Sheepmount on the 23rd May; unfortunately I will be
flying back from Portugal on the day so I will need someone to hand out numbers
on the day – VOLUNTEERS PLEASE?
A full set of the
results should be available on the Eden Runners Website www.edenrunners.co.uk
